Mark Registration in Cambodia
What Is a Mark?
A visible sign that can help customers to recognize your goods (trademark) or your services (service mark), such as your business name, logo, or slogan as a sign that makes your brand stand out.
Why Should You Register a Mark?
Exclusive Rights: You get exclusive use of your mark in Cambodia for 10 years (renewable).
Adds Business Value: A registered mark builds trust, helps in marketing, and can be valued as an asset if you expand or sell your business.
Prevents Future Conflicts: Avoid disputes when someone else tries to register or use your name or a name/mark extremely similar to yours.
You can register it directly or through a legal representative.
How to Register a Mark in Cambodia?
Search if your name/logo is already registered (to avoid conflict).
Prepare documents: logo, business name, applicant details.
Submit application to the Department of Intellectual Property of Ministry of Commerce.
Pay fees and wait for examination + publication.
Registration granted if no rejection—valid for 10 years.
Who Should Register?
Any business owner using a mark/brand – including individual, sole proprietor, company.
Can Any Mark Be Registered?
No, a Mark cannot be registered if it:
can’t differentiate products/service from others
goes against public order, morality or good custom for society
might mislead people
uses official signs or symbols without permission
copies or is too similar to a famous mark already used in Cambodia for same or similar products or services
copies or is too similar to a famous mark used for different products or services impairing the famous mark
is already registered or too similar to one that is already registered
